How do pay-per-click ads work?
  • Google has a pay-per-click advertising platform called AdWords.
  • An AdWords campaign consists of Ad groups that contain keywords and textual adverts relevant to your product or service.
  • When your ads are displayed in Google, and a user clicks on them, you pay a cost to Google called cost per click (CPC). The CPC varies depending on how competitive the keyword is and the amount of budget you’re prepared to set as your CPC.
  • Google also measures user interaction of PPC ads and their subsequent satisfaction with the landing page the ad links through to. This measure is known as Quality Score. If your PPC ads have a high quality score they’ll display higher in Google’s paid results without having to increase the CPC.
